Humor has a central role for us humans, both socially and emotionally. But what is humor? and can this be transferred to an LLM?

ChatGPT has taken the world by storm, but is it really funny? What are its real abilities to understand a joke or to create one?

Humor plays a central role in our human interactions, so this has also been a key area of research in human-computer interactions.

On the other hand, it is also not easy to understand what humor itself is or a general definition of what is funny. So far, artificial intelligence models have been far from being funny. However, in recent months ChatGPT has shocked us with its capabilities, so we can ask the question: is ChatGPT funny?

The world of NLP has been revolutionized by the transformer and its capabilities in capturing word dependencies and showing amazing capabilities such as in-context learning. Humor is often implied and relies on subtle details, so we wonder if AI can finely capture these elements.

At first glance, these jokes look sophisticated and are written in impeccable English. The authors of a new study decided to get to the bottom of it. They soon realized that the jokes are at some point repetitive and more than seem original are present in the training set.
